MOTHER EARTH ISLAND has a strong commitment to resilience and sustainability. We recognize that sustainable business practices are maintaining the status quo, and resilience is adapting to the changing ecosystem. Our intention is to source local products of Cambodia that are geared towards social and environmental responsibilities. This includes not only partner social enterprises that support charities and impoverished groups, but also whose due diligence includes advancing eco-friendly, resilient alternatives. As such, product packaging that uses paper bags, recycled materials, less packaging, and less plastic are preferred. It is our continued commitment to encourage our merchants examine ways to reduce waste.

Our delivery service partners include DHL Express. Within Cambodia, the delivery motorcycles and vehicles are electric. This helps to reduce air pollution and increase air quality. We will continue to advocate to all delivery service providers, including J&T Express to follow the example of DHL Express and adopt a healthier business model by changing their fleet to electric motorcycles and vehicles. Further, MEIC would ideally have each package for delivery use aerated, recycled cardboard or tissue paper instead of plastic bubble wrap – particularly for products that are not fragile. We do not have control over the material our delivery partners use, but as we grow as a company, it is our goal that we are able to switch packaging materials to an eco-friendlier alternative that can also keep your products safe from damage.

Many of our merchants go above and beyond the requirements of sustainability. We greatly appreciate our dedicated partner merchants who use natural, renewable materials and ingredients to create their products. Zero-waste, recycled, upcycled and closed-loop chain models for e-commerce businesses are serious considerations that will evolve as best practices for developing resiliency improve.
